Backgammon is here to stay. As the craze of the game reaches far and wide, more and more investors are coming forth to invest in the lucrative business. This generates more competition for the players in return. With the growth of the game, it becomes important for all the players to understand the rules. Given under is the basic move that the checkers in Backgammon make.
Move 1: Moving the checkers on each of the two dice
The players can move one checker or more than one checker on the basis of the numbers that have been rolled by the dice. For example, if the dice rolls 5 and 3, the player can move one of his checkers 5 points ahead and the other one 3 points. The player may also choose to move one checker two times. Hence, he can move the checker 5 points first and then ahead by 3 points. He may also interchange the order and move the checker 3 points forward first and then move it 5 points ahead. If the player chooses to move one checker two times, he must ensure that both the moves are independent. The checker can be moved only if the point is empty. The player is also allowed to move his checker to a point that is occupied by the opponent’s checker.
In this case if he moves his checker to the same point, it is called “a hit”. However, the player can only place his checkers at such a point if there is only one checker of the opponent that is present. If the point has more than one of the opponent’s checkers, the player cannot move his checker to that point. Hence, there is no hit. On the other hand, if the player hits the opponent, the opponent’s checker goes out of the game.
