There are a number of superstitions when it comes to playing poker. Some of them are meant to increase the luck of a player where as some of them should be avoided as they are believed to be unlucky. However, some of these superstitions, though they have been put under the category of 'superstition', are in fact quite logical and do make some amount of sense. Below are three superstitions that are quite rational when you gave them some thought.
1. Picking up your hand before the dealer finishes dealing to all the other players
This could be a slightly rational belief actually. If a player picks up his hand before the other players even receive their cards, then they will have time to analyse his reaction. They will notice his expression and come up with their own beliefs regarding what sort of cards the player has got.
2. Left handedly picking up the cards dealt to you
Since ancient times, there has always been a belief that evil deeds are carried out with a person's left hand. As far as rumours go, it was thought that witches pointed with the finger of their left hand at people they wanted to cast evil spells on. The person pointed at would then suffer for all eternity. Hence, using your left hand to pick up your cards in poker is believed to be extremely unlucky.
3. Dropping one of your cards by mistake while playing a game
This superstition could have its basis in rationality too. If a person lands up knocking one of his cards off the table, he is most likely not paying as much attention to his game or his cards as he should be paying to it. If he isn't giving his game due attention, he will in all likelihood land up losing. Therefore, this superstition which is said to be unlucky is actually quite a logical and valid fact.
