The Single Deck Blackjack

Online Blackjack comes in a variety of flavours. Each Blackjack variation holds some twist. The different casino software platforms have their individual variations. However, one variant of Blackjack seems to be the favourite of many of them.

The single deck Blackjack is one such variation that almost all the software platforms offer. From Cryptologic to Boss Media to Playtech, the single deck Blackjack version shows its presence everywhere. What makes the single deck Blackjack so popular? The basic rule with regards to the House edge in Blackjack states that as the number of decks increase, the House edge increases. Hence, the number of decks and the advantage that the casino has are directly related. Naturally, a game that uses a single deck has a lower edge. This is the reason for the popularity of this variation. Now, let us learn the rules of this variation. As the name suggests, this version of Blackjack is played with a single deck. While Cryptologic and Playtech provide for the dealer to hit on a 17, in Boss Media, the dealer must stay. Cryptologic and Boss Media have more or less the same rules as far as doubling or splitting is concerned. However the rules in Playtech are a little more rigid. The player is allowed to double down his bet only at 10 and 11. Also if the player has spilt his hands, he is no longer permitted to double his bet as per the rules. If the dealer has a 10 or ace up, he peaks for Blackjack.

Regardless of the software platform, players are restricted to splitting their hands only once. Also the players cannot opt for the surrender feature. Although the rules of the single deck Blackjack are more conservative, it still remains the first choice of the players who want to play a game with a low House edge.
