Craps is played with two dice so the numbers rolled are between 2 and 12. The basic concept of craps is that one player rolls the dice while all the other players bet on what number he rolls. The player who rolls the dice is called the Shooter. The game starts with the shooter throwing both the dice on the craps table.

The first roll of the dice by the Shooter in a new game of craps is known as the Come Out Roll. The marker shows what stage the game is in. If the marker is black it’s ‘off’ and if it is white it’s ‘on’. ‘Off’ means the player has to make his point and ‘on’ means the point has been made by the player.

The bet has to be placed before the first roll of the dice. This is known as the Pass Line Bet. If a 7 or 11 is rolled the player wins straight away. If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled the player loses immediately. If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 is rolled the game continues. This also means a point has been established. When this happens the shooter has to try to roll a point again. If he is successful in rolling a point again he wins. However, if he rolls a 7 he loses.

In craps various other bets can also be placed such as the Don’t Pass Bet, Come Bet, Don’t Come Bet, Odds Bet, Place Bets and Field Bet.

In the case of a Don’t Pass Bet the shooter wins if he rolls a 2 or a 3. 12 results in a tie and a 7 or 11 makes the shooter lose. The Come Bet is placed after the Come Out roll. The Don’t Come Bet is the reverse of the Come Bet. The Odds Bet is placed to increase the odds on a previous bet placed. Place Bets means a bet has been placed that the shooter will roll a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 before he rolls a 7. A Field Bet is a side bet. The player wins even money if a 3, 4, 9, 10 or 11 is thrown. He wins double if a 2 or 12 is rolled and loses if 5, 6, 7 or 8 is rolled.
